Last summer, after getting back from a friend's birthday close to six in the morning, I set my alarm clock, determined to get to work on time. I passed out. Then I woke up. The clock said 11. I panicked. Rushing, I showered and ran out the door, sprinting three blocks in 100 degree heat, calling and messaging co-workers to say I'd be late. No one picked up. I stopped and looked around for a taxi. Nothing. Seriously—nothing. The streets were empty. No one was around. Then my co-worker messaged me: "What's going on? It's 5:30am."
